What is a Grid Series Server?
A Grid Series Server uses virtualization technology to offer a highly redundant, high performance, and highly scalable hosting service for production environments.
Can I install my own applications on a Grid Series Server?
Yes. Grid Series Servers include full root access ensuring you are able to install third-party applications.
Are Grid Series Servers really just Virtual Private Servers?
No. Grid Series Servers are similiar to dedicated servers in the sense that RAM and processing is guaranteed and not shared with other Grid Series Servers on the same node.
What is a node?
A node refers to a physical server. The GridSphere consists of many nodes.
What is the Grid Series Internet Hosting Platform?
The Grid Series Internet Hosting Platform is a collection of servers (nodes) that use virtualization technology to pool the hardware resources of all the nodes. Pooling the hardware resources ensures that they do not sit idle. In addition, the Grid Series enables such features as instant fail over, on demand scalability and server cloning.
What operating systems are supported?
Windows 2003 Server, RedHat Enterprise Linux 4, and CentOS are supported.
How many IPs are included?
You will get 4 usable public IP addresses.
Do you offer load balancing?
Yes. Two or more Grid Series Servers can be load balanced.
Why would I need load balancing if Grid Series Servers include instant failover?
Load balancing is used to scale an application or web site, spreading the load across multiple front-end servers.
Can I create a private network between two or more Grid Series Servers?
Yes. The Grid Series allows you to create a Gigabit private backend network between two or more Grid Series Servers for secure data communications. The Gigabit private network is included in the monthly service fee.
Can I increase my storage allotment?
Yes. However, if additional SAN is added after the server deployment, it will appear as a second drive. If additional SAN is added at the time of deployment, it will appear as a single volume.
What happens when a node fails?
The Grid Series Internet Hosting Platform can detect a downed node and will transfer all Grid Series Servers to a different node on the grid. The transfer process requires a Grid Series Server reboot. A node refers to a physical server on the grid.
Is security patching included?
Yes. Windows 2003, RHEL 4, and CentOS grid servers include security patching.
Is a firewall included?
Yes. Grid Series Servers include a configured host-based firewall.
What are the benefits of paying annually?
You will receive TWO FREE months of service when you make an annual payment -- a savings of 20-30%.
